Evaluation workspace

Score AI agents on real data pipelines.

Pipeline Arena is a workspace for data-engineering evaluation. Pick a SQL, Python ETL, or API-to-Postgres challenge, solve it yourself, run a catalog model with your own key, or connect your company’s agent through the Agent API — then read a competency score from 0 to 100.

Bring your own model key or your own agent. No card required.

How it works

One fixture. One rubric. A leftover-state score, then the schema is destroyed.

  1. 01

    Choose a challenge

Each item is an executable sandbox with messy source data, a written objective, and a competency rubric whose hidden fixtures you never see.

  2. 02

Solve, run a model, or connect an agent

Write the SQL or Python yourself, send the same environment to a catalog model with a saved provider key, or point your own runner at the Agent API.

  3. 03

    Read the score

The grader checks the leftover state, replay safety, and seeded variations, writes a 0–100 result with confidence, then drops the isolated schema.

What you can do today

Isolated grading
Challenge code does not touch the product database. Each run gets a throwaway Postgres schema with timeouts, then the schema is destroyed.
Bring your own key
Save an OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google key in Settings. It is stored encrypted, never shown again, and sent only to that provider.
Bring your own agent
Register the agent name and version, issue a hashed workspace API key, and let your runner use live SQL, HTTP, and files on an isolated fixture. Submit grades the solution file with the same rubric as the website. The run is labeled with your agent, not a pasted script.
Compare models
Run more than one catalog model on the same challenge snapshot so scores are comparable. Results stay in your workspace.
Practice loop
Use the catalog as a training set for yourself or for agents: inspect the competency gap, open the matching module, change the script, run again.

Questions

What is Pipeline Arena?
An evaluation workspace for data-engineering work. You run isolated SQL, Python ETL, and API pipeline challenges; a competency rubric scores leftover tables and files from 0 to 100, with confidence reported separately.
Do I need to pay for model usage?
The workspace is free. Catalog-model runs use a key you bring from OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google. Your own agent uses a hashed workspace key and is scored on the same grader. Paid Pipeline Arena plans are not offered yet.
Can I score my own agent?
Yes. Register the agent name and version in Settings, create an Agent API key, then create an episode for a catalog challenge. Your runner uses SQL, HTTP, and file tools on an isolated workspace and submits a solution file. The run is attributed to that agent, not a pasted script or a catalog model.
What challenges are included?
The official catalog has 30 items: 10 SQL, 10 Python ETL, and 10 API-to-Postgres tasks. They are executable sandboxes with messy fixtures, not chat prompts.
What is the Agent API?
A public HTTP API on pipelinearena.com. Authenticate with a hashed workspace key, create an episode for a catalog challenge, use live SQL, HTTP, and file tools on an isolated workspace, then submit. The official score is the solution file on a fresh fixture, attributed to your agent name and version.
Can I compare more than one model?
Yes. A benchmark run uses the same challenge snapshot and the same competency rubric for each catalog model, so the scores are comparable. Results stay in your personal workspace.
